Below is an interview with John Hermans who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.


Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
Montreux is a private 726 acre golf and country club community located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Reno, Nevada.

We are the area's only Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Called one of his top five designs by Nicklaus himself, the 18-hole course offers players plenty of opportunities to test your skills while admiring your surroundings, which include dramatic elevation drops, waterfalls and abundant rock outcroppings.

Woven throughout the golf course, you will find Montreux's exquisite selection of real estate opportunities, including The Cottages, Creekside Manors, StoneHaven, Renaissance and The Chalets, as well as custom built homes and custom homesites.

Inside Montreux's private 33,000 square foot clubhouse, members and guests can enjoy the use of three separate dining rooms, locker rooms,the pro shop as well as a 5,000 square foot Swim & Tennis Center.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course?
Montreux hosts a PGA Tour event The Barracuda Championship (formerly the Reno-Tahoe Open). In 2017, the event is slated for July 31 - August 6. In addition, Jack Nicklaus considers Montreux one of his top five courses.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
Montreux has the characteristics of a typical Jack Nicklaus signature course. Most holes call for a slight fade off the tee. As far as putting, almost every putt breaks away from the mountain and toward downtown Reno.

Any recent changes to the golf course? Or any upcoming changes?
How can a golfer play the golf course.

Montreux is a private club that allows for up to 2 groups a day. If a golfer is a member at a private club, their head PGA Professional can call for reciprocity. In addition, we have relationships with many of the Reno area casinos. For example, Eldorado, Silver Legacy, and Grand Sierra. Please have your casino host arrange tee times and/or stay and play packages.

Our reciprocity rate is $250 and includes a caddy.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?
We are consistently voted the top golf course in Northern Nevada. As mentioned, we have hosted a PGA event since 1999 and Jack Nicklaus considers Montreux one of his top five courses.

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
Hole #17 drops 150 feet to a lower fairway. The view is incredible. Soak it all in then grab your club and prepare to hit a demanding shot. The ball will hang up in the air forever. Avoid the creek on the left and be careful not to hit it too far. The ball will carry and feels like it is in the air forever. You do not have to hit driver. A drive favoring the left side will give you a look at birdie.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
I love hole #14. It is a great risk vs reward hole that offers bigger hitters to drive the green with a slight fade. If you are going for the green aim for the tall tree on the left side of the green and shape it in. The safe play is to layup to distance you you like with a wedge.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
The members rave about the Golden Bear Wrap. Blackened chicken is smothered in a tomato jam topped with onions, bacon, pepper jack cheese folded in a Chipotle wrap. It is amazing!
